Max Verstappen told Formula1.com on Friday that Red Bull Racing are still in the process of "getting up to speed" with their car at the demanding Madring circuit ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix. The Dutch driver, who has dominated the season so far, highlighted that the team’s performance on the final practice day was a clear indicator that more work is required before qualifying on Saturday.
Verstappen explained that the Madring layout, with its high‑speed corners and heavy braking zones, is a true test of aerodynamic balance and tyre management. "We’re still figuring out the perfect set‑up for this track," he said. "The car feels good, but we need to extract a little more out of it, especially in the low‑speed sections where we lose a bit of grip." The Red Bull crew chief, Christian Horner, echoed the sentiment in the team's post‑practice debrief, noting that the data collected will be crucial for the final set‑up decisions.
Despite the modest assessment, Verstappen remains confident about the team’s prospects. He pointed to the strong pace shown in the first two practice sessions and the progress made since the pre‑season testing phase. "We’ve been improving every weekend," Verstappen added. "If we can sort out the little things on Saturday, I think we have a solid chance of fighting for the win on Sunday." The driver also praised the work of the engineers, saying their rapid response to the car’s behaviour has helped keep Red Bull in contention.
