Lewis Hamilton has won the 2026 Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix, Round 7 of the season at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, finishing ahead of George Russell and Lando Norris to seal a landmark maiden Grand Prix victory for Ferrari.

It is a result that will echo: Hamilton's first win in Ferrari red, sealed on an afternoon turned upside down when championship leader Kimi Antonelli and Charles Leclerc both retired inside the final three laps.

Result - top five

  • P1 - Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari)
  • P2 - George Russell (Mercedes)
  • P3 - Lando Norris (McLaren)
  • P4 - Max Verstappen (Red Bull)
  • P5 - Oscar Piastri (McLaren)

Hamilton is the first non-Mercedes winner of the 2026 season; Russell took second from pole for Mercedes, with Norris third for McLaren.

How the race unfolded

The grid was set on Saturday by one of the tightest qualifying sessions of the year: George Russell took pole for Mercedes with a 1:14.679, edging Hamilton's Ferrari by just 0.064s, while Charles Leclerc crashed out in Q3 and started down the order. See the full confirmed grid and our race-day preview.

Russell led away from pole, but a well-timed mid-race virtual safety car swung control Ferrari's way, and Hamilton led when it mattered. The drama peaked in the closing three laps, when Antonelli - the runaway points leader - and Leclerc both retired, reshaping the race and confirming Hamilton's emotional first victory for the Scuderia.

Championship impact

Mercedes came into Barcelona leading the Constructors' Championship on 244 points, ahead of Ferrari (165), McLaren (116) and Red Bull (69). In the drivers' standings, Kimi Antonelli arrived with a commanding lead - 156 points, 66 clear of Lewis Hamilton (90), with George Russell third (88). Antonelli's late retirement is a rare blank for the leader, but his cushion keeps him in command; Hamilton's win and Russell's second reshuffle the momentum behind him, while McLaren's Norris and Piastri bank strong points in the constructors' fight.
