Alpine’s senior management is taking a measured approach after Franco Colapinto’s spectacular three‑car incident at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Team principal Flavio Briatore told the media that the outfit will "reflect on what course of action should be taken" before making any public statements or technical changes.
The crash unfolded on lap 12 when Colapinto, driving the Alpine‑powered car for the first time this season, lost control at Turn 3. He spun into the wall, rebounded onto the racing line and was subsequently hit by two other cars, prompting a full‑course yellow and a brief safety‑car period. The incident not only ended Colapinto’s race but also eliminated Alpine’s chances of scoring points, as the team’s other driver, Pierre Gasly, was forced to retire with a separate mechanical issue.
According to Formula1.com, Alpine’s engineers are now analysing telemetry data, tyre wear and the car’s aerodynamic setup to understand whether the crash was a driver error, a technical fault, or a combination of both. Briatore emphasized that the team will not rush to blame anyone and will instead focus on “learning from the incident to improve reliability and driver confidence.”
Sky Sports F1 added that the crash has raised concerns about Alpine’s performance on street circuits, where tyre degradation and brake temperatures are notoriously high. The team’s recent struggles in Baku follow a mixed weekend in Saudi Arabia, where they finished just outside the points.
